Meet designer Amanda Benjamin from
The Decorator's Daughter
Amanda brings a history rich in design, art and music to her work. She is a second generation Interior Designer who injects clean transitional lines, color and texture to classic design principals. As a lover of color, texture and family traditions, she believes that the best style comes from a home-owner's story. It is the juxtaposition of old and new; where you've been and where you are going that makes for great personal, collected spaces. She is influenced by traditional design from the south, and both California and New England coastal styles.
At Design with Tile, we love working with Amanda, we see her dedication and talent integrated into each project she works on. Every customer speaks highly of the satisfaction they have received through working with her. She has a firm but easy going demeanor, which translates into her work. Amanda is an exceptionally gifted designer and as a second generation designer she has trained all her life to do what she loves through Interior Design.

We had the pleasure of collaborating with Amanda on her latest project. The stunning kitchen pictured features Walker Zanger's Gramercy Park collection on the backsplash.
Is there a space in your home that you have been dying to give a face lift to? That one project that you have been putting off for the longest time, and then it hits you. We are now in the end of October and the holidays are right around the corner! Enter day dream sequence: Family and friends gathered around a shiny new kitchen island catching up over drinks and bites of homemade casseroles that the kids sneak before dinner is ready. The hustle and bustle of everyone coming in through your new foyer, and the clicking of their shoes against your beautiful new floors. The compliments you will get when they use your new powder room, like music to your ears! SMACK! The worries of time constraints, budget limits, and the overall inconvenience of having construction in your home immediately flood your mind and hit you like a ton of bricks. And just like that, what just seemed like an exciting and obtainable goal is once again gone from your mind and filed under that pesky "maybe next year" imaginary file. I hate that imaginary file... especially after a looong Pinterest binge, that file is stuffed full of maybes. Just like my garden shed is stuffed full of lonely furniture pieces waiting to be turned into those magical Pinterest projects that I keep pinning. But the lesson here my friends is to NOT be like me! Taking on a renovation project right before the Holidays can be a daunting task, trust me I have been there! I once had my stove and my refrigerator in my living room right next to my couch while my husband re-did our kitchen floors and that is NOT fun. It’s overwhelming and by the end of it all you vow never to do it again. I mean my wine was conveniently right there next to my couch and it made my nights with Downton Abbey a lot more fun but that’s beside the point. There are plenty of quick fix options for the projects you have in mind that will make that renovation a quick and easy process. The main areas of concern for most are always either the kitchen or guest/powder bath.
Now let’s talk countertops. Maybe you are looking for a way to update your kitchen but don’t want to go the route of a backsplash. Countertops are an option that you may look into which may give your kitchen that little extra sparkle it needs. I would say the most time consuming part of this option would be the selection process. But remember, the more diligent you are, the quicker it goes. Tour slab yards and look at your options, don’t be afraid to ask them to move slabs around for you or to look at slabs that have been placed on hold already, you would be surprised at the amount of people that shop around and end up changing their minds. With that being said if you find a slab that you like, place a HOLD on it, chances are it will be gone the next day if you don’t. After your selection process from templating to installation you will be looking at a 2-3 week process, but that’s mainly for fabrication. The actual installation of your counter top will only take one day. One day… do you love me yet? Because having that imaginary “maybe next year” file seems silly right about now right?
So let’s say you’re blessed and lucky enough to already have a kitchen you absolutely love and adore and you cook in it all the time and bake pies and birds fly around you as you hum a happy tune (that’s me in my mind by the way, in my dream kitchen) but you just have that plain old powder room that just needs a little updating. Re-doing an entire powder room of a standard size is normally only about a week long process if you have a contractor that is on site on a daily basis, increase that to two weeks if we are looking at a larger size guest bath. With that being said you would still have plenty of time to do an entire renovation on a short period of time.
But wait…..we haven’t spoken about the dreaded word. The b word. Yup, the dream killer….the BUDGET. At Design with Tile we work with all types of budgets. It is still possible to find a tile shop that will work with you from beginning to end on a project, that will help you find material that is within budget, that will give you renderings of your design concept and will make sure the entire process is stress free. We are here to do just that. Take a look at our reviews on Houzz and let our customers speak for the quality of our customer service. Stop putting off that renovation, what you think may be a long and overwhelming ordeal may just turn out to be the easiest thing you have ever done! Now picture yourself where we started. Hosting your family and friends for the holidays….with a new kitchen or bath. That dream is closer than you may think!
